Last year our learning series articles discussed each month's birthstone. The articles provided not only the chemical composition, most prolific locations and other scientific facts but history, myths and other unusual tidbits of information.

According to “Rocks and Minerals of Alabama – A Guidebook for Alabama Rockhounds” (Circular 38, 1966), specimen-quality minerals are spread throughout 37 of Alabama’s 67 counties. Of those 37 counties, 12 have communities that seem especially blessed with desirable specimens. For the next year, our learning series will explore the rocks and minerals found in these 12 "Super Sites".

If you want to read or download these articles just click on the month below. It will take a second or two article will open as a pdf. Feel free to use any or all material available in the Dothan Gem & Mineral Club Learning Series, but please be sure to credit the source.
